About Laurieton

Laurieton is a picturesque coastal town nestled at the foot of North Brother Mountain on the Mid North coast of NSW (it's a great view from the lookout by the way!). An easy 2 hour drive north of Newcastle, the beautiful area offers some of the best and most unspoilt coastline in Australia. The Camden Haven is the name given to the communities that gather around Laurieton the banks of The Camden Haven River, from its origins in the foothills of the Great Dividing range, to its escape into the Pacific Ocean. A mere 400km north of Sydney, the Camden Haven area originated from a small fishing village and has grown to a thriving residential and tourist playground offering the diversity of waterways, rivers, lakes, beaches, mountains and rural acres.

Climate

The Camden Haven has some of the best weather in Australia. Warm ocean currents, offshore breezes and a sub-tropical setting mean average summer days of 25°C and nights that rarely fall below 18°C. Winter days range from 7°C to 17°C

THINGS TO DO

Aside from the natural beauty and character, there's plenty to do or you can choose to do very little. Be adventurous or relaxed, go hang gliding or fishing, ride a horse along a mountain trail or stroll along the break wall, climb a mountain or float down a river, visit a winery, discover a gallery, go to a club, a pub or the movies, watch for whales sample some locally produced macadamias, meet the locals.

The Camden Haven is popular with families and couples seeking an alternative to city life and retirees wanting an active after-work life away from the "Big Smoke".

By the Water

Everywhere you look there is water to be enjoyed. Choose a swimming spot to suit - vigorous surf at Rainbow and Grants Beaches, quiet clean Pilot Beach, the crystal clear creek at Swans Crossing, netted tidal pools at Dunbogan and North Haven and Council pools at Laurieton and Kendall.
Launch a canoe from the historic wharf at Kendall to paddle down the river. Sail on Queens Lake or tramp the lakeside walking track from Lakewood to Laurieton. Picnic at Henry Kendall Reserve where kids can swim in Stingray Creek. Hire a BBQ boat. Fish from the breakwall or the beach. Dine in Dunbogan Reserve on fish and chips or a dozen oysters and a bottle of local wine.
